San Francisco Adventures

Day 232-Aug 20th: We headed back this morning. Our flight left at 6am, so we were up at 3:20 and ready to catch our shuttle to the airport. We were glad when we finally got home and took a nap for a few hours. I was glad that I got these little gumdrop ornaments home safely. We found them at the Wharf and decided they could be our new ornaments for Christmas this year!

Day 231-Aug 19th: Today my old laurel advisor and friend Bridgette drove up from San Jose and we went down to Fisherman's Wharf for lunch. We ate at this delicious crepe place and then wandered around for a little bit. Owen, her 2-year-old had a lot of energy, but he was cute! We saw the sea lions, alcatraz, and a bunch of little shops. Then we went down to an art store can Flax, which was amazing. I wish Russell could have come because they had all sorts of book-binding things. He would have loved it! We had a great time catching up and just hanging out for a bit. When Russell was done, we headed down to the Aquarium of the Bay and wandered around for a little bit. We got tired of waiting for the bus to come, so we just walked the 2 miles back to the hotel.

Day 230-Aug 18th: Today was the first day of the conference for Russell. I spent the morning working on Independent Study and then we met up for lunch at Bourdin Bakery and Cafe. We had some roast beef sandwiches on fresh sourdough bread! They were delicious. After lunch I had planned to go down to Fisherman's wharf on the trolley cart, but when I walked down to the trolley cart the line was like an hour long. I didn't think it would be that fun alone anyway, so I just wandered around, went in a few stores, and headed back to the hotel to watch some olympics and wait for Russell. We went to dinner with Russell's friend from high school, Jake, and his wife in Chinatown. It was fun for Russell to see Jake again and I think they had a good time catching up.

Day 229-Aug 17th: We were off tonight for San Francisco. Russell went to go to a web conference, and I just went with him for fun. Our flight left Salt Lake at 9pm so we didn't get to our hotel until just after midnight. We were soooooooooooo tired and loved the sight of our bed at that point! It was in The Palace Hotel that was pretty expensive, and we decided we aren't the kind of people for a fancy life-style. It wasn't even that great of a hotel, just expensive because of the location I guess.

Agricola

Day 228-Aug 16th: Today was a very busy Saturday. We hung around this morning waiting for Sears to come and look at the microwave. Turns out our blower is not working, and our magnetron is arcing. Yeah.....don't use the microwave. So....we are in the process of getting a new one, trying to figure things out with the home insurance and for now avoiding the microwave. Then we headed up to help Caleb move some furniture around at Grandma Chatfield's so they can move in next weekend, stopped by Rachel's school and helped her get a few things ready in her classroom, and headed up to Alpine for one of Russell's friends wedding receptions. When we got back we watched some olympics and played Agricola once again. This is a new game Russell got and because there are so many cards it's very different every time you play. But it's bugging me because I always think I'm doing really well but then end up losing, so I keep making him play with me so I can try to figure it out. I am getting a little better, but I haven't figured things out as well as I would like yet.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

Day 227-Aug 15th: I'm starting to hit the wind-down of my independent study classes. I finished my last HEPE lesson today which required walking a mile as fast as I could (that's the time on the stopwatch). Now I just have to take the HEPE final after we get back from San Francisco on Wednesday. I also took my third physical science mid-term, which leaves me with 9 lessons and the final in that class. I can definately finish before school starts, which is great, but I'm going to try and do two lessons a day and be ready to take the final a week early so I can have a week to relax before school starts up again.

Day 226-Aug 14th: This week I've relied on our VCR! We have been Tivo-ing the olympics, but I still wanted to record my other shows too, so I pulled out a tape and turned on the VCR. Good thing we still have the old technology around!

Day 225-Aug 13th: We got the K&Company Halloween line in today, and I snagged these cute things for myself. I'm going to make the pins into magnets for the fridge. Then there is a trick or treat banner to make, and a glow-in-the-dark skeleton!

Day 224-Aug 12th: Today I finally called the home insurance people to get them to come look at the microwave and water heater. One day, a while ago, I was using the fan on the microwave while cooking something on the stove. The fan was too loud for me though, so I turned it off. Then later I used the microwave to make some corn, and flames started coming out the side of it!!! It's worked fine since then (although I haven't tried to use the fan again). As for the water heater, it makes a loud humming noise anytime we use water, which is quite annoying. So...before our home insurance expires in September we decided we better get them to look at things.

Accordian Book Close-Ups

Here's some closeup's of the pages in the little accordian book I made for work.

Finished Accordian Book

Day 223-Aug 11th: I got to work today and didn't have much receiving to do. Turns out Keera had some downtime on Saturday and decided to get some receiving in. So...when I finished what I had I finally had a chance to finish this sample accordian book I've been working on. There's 12 envelopes, one for each month of Jaxson's first year. Then in the back I put more of the scalloped notecards to write what happened that month, like "first tooth" or "started crawling." I was excited to finish it and think it turned out super cute!

The Weekend Plus Thursday

Day 222-Aug 10th: Nursery was absolutely crazy today, but that's another story. So...we were glad to have Rachel over tonight to help us unwind. We played a new game Russell finally got after he preordered it in February called Agricola. It's a farming game, and it was really hard. After Rachel left though, Russell looked over the rules again and found out we did some major things wrong, so when we play again on Thursday the game should be a little easier!

Day 221-Aug 9th: The moment we've all been waiting for...THE OLYMPICS!!!! I am pretty much an olympic fanatic. So...while we did escape to buy school supplies and I did clean the toilet in our bathroom, we spent pretty much the entire day watching the olympics. I was excited to see the men's gymnastics since the boy I sat next to in high school physics, Jonathon Horton, is on the team! He did a great job, and hopefully the U.S. will get a medal!

Day 220-Aug 8th: I worked tonight from 5-10 which felt really wierd. Since being promoted to be the receiver I really haven't worked like a single night, but this week was Creating Keepsakes University Provo (a big scrapbooking convention....lots of classes, prizes, crops, and stores being open late to shop!) so we were open until midnight Wed-Sat. Luckily, I didn't have to stay until midnight. Some of those CKU ladies are crazy! While I was at work, Russell had the boys over for another game night to play Descent, the board game he bought with money from helping his Mom at the store. I hear everyone had a great time, and Larkin is even dreaming about playing again! It must have been great because Russell says they left at 12:40am! ( I was sound asleep by then!) The picture is the aftermath on Saturday morning actually. They had the whole table, the bench, and the kitchen counter taken over with cards, figures, boards, and more!

Day 219-Aug 7th: I went to the dentist the month before Russell and I got married, and I decided it was about time to go again. Our insurance pays for twice a year, but I just hadn't made the effort to find a dentist and go. Keera referred me to a great one, Dr. Barry, and I made appointments. We went today and they were really nice, even gave us an extra new-patient goody bag with chapstick, a whole tube of toothpaste, a water bottle, and some M&M's! Who would have thought a dentist would hand out M&M's? Anyway, a few cavities to fill and then we will be back on dental track....we even already have appointments for February!

Over the Rainbow

Day 218-Aug 6th: We went on a trek for wasp spray after dinner tonight. You see...I big nasty wasp decided to make a home right next to our front door. I don't know if he realized this....but he was NOT INVITED! Anyway, we thought K-mart across the street would have some spray, but they didn't. And neither did Walmart. So we ended up at Lowe's. It rained for a few minutes on our trek, but then there was a rainbow! It was really distinct.

Day 217-Aug 5th: Today we had to fast until 7pm because we had to do some physical's for supplemental life insurance. I was super hungry this morning though, and decided rather than sit at home and think about food I would go to the store and try and find something to redecorate this red bathroom. I found a cute bathroom set a Target, but I'm still not sure what I want to do. I do however know that I want to paint the green wall in our bedroom and our master bath the blue that matches our duvet. We might do that this weekend....if we get ambitious.

New Door Hanger

Here's the new door hanger I bought at Quilted Bear, it's great for Fall. All the way to Thanksgiving really.

Days Keep Ticking Away

Day 216-Aug 4th: We had a coupon that was about to expire for The Quilted Bear, so we went tonight and wandered around. We found about a million things we would like, but we bought the last two ladder kits we needed, these cute little halloween jingle bells, and a pumpkin door hanger. We have plans to go back and get a few more halloween things before october rolls aroung though!

Day 215-Aug 3rd: Today I NEEDED to win a game. I haven't won in a long time, even the games I usually win at. So...after losing at Mille Bournes and Ticket to Ride: The Card Game, Russell reminded me that I was good at Mystery Rummy: Jekyl and Hyde. And I won! Twice in a row! So....I went to bed feeling better about my game playing abilities.

Day 214-Aug 2nd: I finally found another pair of jeans that I like and that fit me well! Aeropostale was having a $20 off jean sale, so I was all over it. I found these, and I really like the pockets. Now I have two pairs of jeans without holes in them! Yay!

Day 213-Aug 1st: Pebbles had their warehouse sale today and I definitely wasn't going to miss it! They had a ton of good stuff, but I only got a few things that I knew I would use since I don't have a lot of storage space. I got 6 sheets of paper, 12 sticker sheets, 4 yards of ribbon, and some magnetic clips for only $3.84! Usually the 6 sheets fo paper would be about that much. It was awesome!
