To Shelf or Not to Shelf

Day 180-June 29th: As we were getting some games to play tonight, I saw these games on the floor and told Russell since he was out of board game shelves he could put them on the bookcase next to my school stuff. His reply was "I know, I have to think about it, it's hard. They would be segregated." Right.....because they are not segregated right now.....sitting on the floor.....all alone.....not on a shelf with other games.....or in the game closet.

Dear Mr. Cold

I don't appreciate how you have come into my life, pestered me on my anniversary, invited yourself to stay a whole week, made me cough so much my back hurts, made my nose run so much that it is chapped, been immune to decongestants, interrupted my sleep, and clogged my airways.

So come on....isn't it about time you find yourself a new victim???

Sincerely,

Shyla

Bloggity-Blog Post

Day 179-June 28th: We've had a pretty lazy day here so far. We went up to check on the Provo house, stopped by the Quilted Bear to see if they had the 4th of July ladder kits (no luck:( ), and ran to Walmart to get some salad for dinner at Grandma's tomorrow night. After that we were just lazy playing video games and searching the internet. After a while we decided to go check the mail and I had a letter from BYU financial aid and scholarships. Russell said "maybe you got a scholarship," and I was like, "hmmm....this is weird, I didn't apply for anything this year, what are they sending me?" But, sure enough, there in that envelope is a half-tuition scholarship for Fall and Winter! I didn't even APPLY for a scholarship (because every time I have in the past I haven't managed to get one and my grades have stayed about the same, so I didn't feel it was worth it), but I will take it anyway! Anyway, that is like making $2040 in a matter of a minute, so we went to see Wall-e to celebrate. It was an awesome movie! Everyone should go and see it.

Day 178-June 27th: Well, tonight Alison Thompson kicked off the wedding reception tour of summer 2008. Here Russell is doing the dishes after we got home from the reception, he's so great at that! Alison looked beautiful as the bride, and Micah even knew our names when he shook our hands (which Russell told me later that Alison had whispered in his ear who we were!) Anyway, it was great to see the Thompson's again, especially Ashley! I don't think I've seen her since about the time Caleb got home from his mission or so, which is way to long to go without seeing your friend. I can't wait for her wedding on August 9th! Anyway....I say the wedding reception tour because we have Alison in June, Megan in July, and Emily, Ashley, Ben & Courtney, and Heather all in August!! Wow!

Cough, Sneeze, Blow Nose, Cough, Cough

Day 177-June 26th: When I woke up this morning, I knew I should call the doctor, but since it was me and Keera on the floor all day I couldn't call into work, so I went. Luckily though, B-Jo said if I could get an appointment for after she was done teaching the class she would stay around and cover the floor while I went. She's wonderful!

So there I went...off to the Doctor. After she was in the room for a minute and I explained my symptoms she said "You have asthma don't you," I said "Ummm...yeah, I do." and she said, "I can hear your chest!" Great. Anyway, I just have a bad cold made worse because of asthma. So...she wrote me prescriptions for my inhalers, which had all expired a couple of months ago and told me to get some Mucinex.

She checked out my ears and throat and offered to do a strep test even though she was sure I didn't have it, which I gracefully declined. Then she started listening to my chest, and immediately I thought "oh....I didn't tell her about my heart murmur" and sure enough, the next thing she asked me to do was hold my breath while she listened and asked my if anyone had told me I have a heart murmur. Haha. It's really funny that every doctor I go to finds that murmur so amazing, they all say it's different than any they've heard. Weird, but surely I'm not the only one with a heart murmur like this! Anyway, it's always interesting to see what they do!

And...I think I have finally found a family doctor. She was great!

Tissues....What a Lovely Sight

Day 176-June 25th: So I've been sick since Monday afternoon. Whatever Russell had last week, he passed right on to me. Thanks honey:( Anyway, I wasn't really congested until Tuesday morning, and we got home from Park City to find that Russell had used all the tissues in the house while being sick last week. So when we went to dinner at Chili's I made a mental note to stop for tissues somewhere on the way home....but no....I forgot. Then I decided I would stop today on my way home from work. And I stopped, yes I did, and I bought everything we needed, bread, ham, etc, but halfway through checking out I realized I didn't get tissues. Nor did I have the energy to go back for them then. So....once Russell got home we went back to the store for tissues, and it's been a wonderful night now that I can blow my nose on a nice Puff's Plus with Lotion rather than toilet paper!

Anniversary Rundown

Day 175-June 23rd: Happy Anniversary to us! We've been married for one year today. Here's a We got up this morning and opened the presents we bought for each other and then headed to Park City for two days to celebrate.

Here's a link to the pictures we took while we were there: http://picasaweb.google.com/carnegiewannabe.

It took us a few minutes to figure out how to get to the resort in Park City, but when we finally did it was tons of fun. We bought tickets to go on the Alpine Coaster and Slides. I really didn't want to go on the coaster, because it looked like you just went straight down, but Russell convinced me to go. Then as I was riding up the hill I thought, "Oh, I'll be alright, this part I thought was a straight drop is where they pull you up, and those people I see going down aren't going that fast." But no, it went fast, and you feel like you are going to fly off when you go around the curves. It was fun though. Then we rode the lift up the mountain and went on the Alpine Slides. We went to Pizza Hut Buffet for lunch, which was delicious, and at that point I started to realize that my throat was killing me, it wasn't just because I needed a drink. Oh....and my thighs were killing too because of basically doing squats all day yesterday while scanning paper for inventory! Anyway, after lunch we went to the outlet mall and walked around. We didn't find much to buy except for more cute baby clothes from Carter's and some soap from Bath and Body Works. By the time we had seen about 1/3 of the stores in the mall I was ready to die, I did not feel good and I thought my legs were going to collapse any minute, but check-in at the hotel was not until 4pm. So we kept wandering and when we got to the end we just went and parked in the hotel parking lot and slept for the half-hour before check-in. The rest of the evening we mostly just slept, although we did make a trip to Albertson's for medicine and treats. Russell was not feeling good either so we were kind of pathetic. Our hotel room had a hot-tub in it though, which I enjoyed.

Day 176-June 24th: We got up this morning feeling a little better and decided to try the Alpine Slides at Olympic Park before we came home. Olympic Park was awesome! We walked through the museum (which had some bobsleds!), watched some aerial skiers train on the jumps into the pool and others on the mountain, and then slid down the Alpine Slide. By then we were both worn out and just came home and took a nap. We'll probably go out to dinner tonight since last night we felt crappy and just picked up McDonald's to eat at the hotel. I guess McDonald's is a tradition for our anniversary since that's where we ate dinner the day we got married!

Crazy Weekend

Day 174-Jun 22nd: Wow! Today we did paper inventory at work and it was a LONG day! I sorted the clearance paper and tried to match it up with Keera while everyone counted the paper on the floor for 5 hours, then I scanned all the paper in for 4 hours! That's a lot of paper! Over 4000 different ones! Anyway, we got it done and 10 hours later we all went home. There's some things to look at in the morning to finish up, but it all went well.

Day 173-Jun 21st: The day didn't turn out to be too bad. It was a long work day, but then we played games with Larkin and Allyson which is always awesome. We wish they weren't going to up and move on us come April. Anyway, while we were at Larkin and Allyson's, I saw they had Big Brain Academy for the Wii and they let me borrow it! I wanted to see what it was like and if it was really any different from Brain Age for the DS. I played some last night, and it's really fun. Probably not a game I would keep for forever if I bought it, but it was cool. I even got two platinum medals in the exercises! I got a C+ as my test grade just on a dry run before I even knew what to do on the game, so I'll have to see if I can do better now that I'm familiar with the things you do.

6.20.2008

Work, Work, Work, All Day Long

Day 172-June 20th: That 9-5 shift on the 21st??? Not supposed to be there! Some things happened at work and now I'm working 8 hours tomorrow, which was supposed to be my day off. I don't really mind working, but the last couple of days I just haven't felt like it. Suffice it to say that I cannot wait to spend Monday and Tuesday in Park City. Maybe we will even turn our cell phones off! It's been a long week, but my paycheck should be nice come next Friday.

6.19.2008

3 Days Catch-Up

Day 171-June 19th: I just spent an hour talking to Mom and Coop in New York. Mom even went and took a shower in the middle of our conversation!!! Anyway, it was fun to hear from them and it sounds like they are having a good time up there at Joffrey. I'm beginning to think those two wouldn't mind living there and going to Broadway shows every night. Too bad they never share the fun!

Day 170-June 18th: This is the way the lights were in our house all day today....OFF. No, not because the power was out, but because I had a migraine. I went to work just fine this morning at 9, but by 10:30 I was feeling terrible and told Elaine I was going home. I clocked out, then quickly ran to the bathroom to relieve my nausea, and then came home and slept until 3. I woke up feeling a little better but still didn't shake the headache fully until after another nights sleep.

Day 169-June 17th: So I've actually found some extra time the last couple of days to enjoy our Wii. I've been unlocking things on Mario Kart, and enjoying myself in the process. The Wii is tons of fun, and I wish I had more time to mess around with it, but it's probably good that I don't! We did finally find a Wii Fit to buy though, and it should be coming soon!

6.16.2008

Suspicious Activities

Day 168-June 16th: With our anniversary just around the corner (Yes, I did say our anniversary. It's hard to believe but it's already been a year, and a spectacular year at that!) there seems to be some suspicious activities going on around our home. Russell is up to something in his board game room, and has been for a while now, and I can't wait to figure out what it is! He keeps sneaking in there and closing the door. But don't worry, I have my own secrets too, I just have the advantage of being at home alone while Russell is at work! Ha! One week to a celebration of one year! Let the secrets continue!

A Few Loose Screws

Day 167-June 15th: So...my computer works fine, but I cannot seem to keep the screws in the bottom. I really don't throw my laptop around or anything, but the screws seem to wiggle loose constantly. It happened with my old Dell as well, and I think it's a Dell thing. Ugh. Now....if I can find the screws I will screw them back in!

A Great Day Off

I LOVE having Saturday's off of work. Russell and I ran some errands this morning, took a great nap, played some games, visited Rachel, and now I am blogging and watching a cool show about the newest rides at Disneyland and Disneyworld on ABC.

Day 166- June 14th: I went around to different scrapbooking stores today trying to find some certain month paper for each title page in the picture-a-day album. I didn't manage to find it, except for online, but I did find a place finally that had the whole Bo-Bunny 4th of July Freedom line!!! I've seen it online and we got a couple of the papers in, but I hadn't managed to find the whole line, so I picked it up and now I need some great plans for the 4th of July that will produce some awesome pictures!!

Day 165-June 13th: It's Friday the 13th and I went to mania with Kathy and Kara, it was great! I hadn't planned a lot and didn't want to spend a lot of money, but I got a few things done or started. I'm trying to save my scrapbooking money for a trip to a store on our way to Park City in a week! I bought this little accordian book kit last October but we never managed to pick pumpkins, so I decided this week to make the back of it, and then I'll finish up the front with pumpkin-picking pictures when we go this year! I LOVE the Bo-Bunny kits! I also finished the wedding details page and got some great ideas for my picture-a-day album and got a page started for that.

Day 164-June 12th: Rachel came over tonight and we taught her to play Ticket to Ride: The Card Game. It was awesome! Russell and I had played it with Larkin and Allyson and finally got our copy yesterday, which we promptly played, and then we played again with Rachel.

My Turn

Day 163-June 11th: This is the dinner I took Keera, Eric, and Jaxson tonight. Keera was wonderful when I had surgery both times and brought us dinner three times, so since Eric ended up with his appendix out on Monday I knew it was my turn to return the favor, and I don't mind at all. It's probably not the most nutritious meal, but good comfort food. The orange soda was especially for Jaxson, who watched as Keera brought me orange soda but he didn't have any. Feel better soon Eric!

A Chinese Power Outage

Day 162-June 10th: Well, about 30 minutes before Russell got home the power went out. I'm not sure why, but it was super windy and that might of had something to do with it. Anyway, I was going to make steak for dinner and I knew Russell would be excited but there was no power! So....I asked him if we could go out. I was thinking just McDonald's on the corner, but he said let's go to Shoots! His coworkers had told him about it a week or so ago, it's a cheaper Chinese place in the Riverwoods shopping center. It was great!! The service was a bit slow, but the food was delicious and there was plenty of it for your money. I do like P.F. Chang's and Pei Wei better still, but this place is close and decently priced. I took the camera so that I could take a picture of the restaurant and then totally forgot, so here's a picture of our leftovers! I had Honey-Roasted Walnut Chicken, and Russell had Firecracker Chicken (which was a disappointment because it was NOT spicey at all, even though it had a spicey symbol next to it on the menu!) Oh....the funny part was as we were getting out of the car to go into Shoots, Russell said "Hey, that's my family!" and sure enough, there on the sidewalk was Aunt Carol, Uncle Quinn, Sandra and her boys, and Dan! It was kind of crazy to run into them. We chatted for a minute or two which was nice and then went our separate ways (they had just come from Tucanos).

Day 161-June 9th: Tonight after we ate dinner I turned to Russell and said "If it's all right with you, I just want to finish my book tonight." Haha. I didn't want to ignore him if he wanted to do something together. But he said he had things to work on, so I read the last 190 pages of Two Little Girls in Blue by Mary Higgins Clark. I love her books and found this one I hadn't read on our Memorial Day trip to Barnes and Noble. I read it in three days. I love, love, love to read books that are not textbooks!!!

6.08.2008

The Weekend

Day 160-June 8th: On Friday morning I burnt my thumb on my straightener. I picked it up to do my hair and then my hand slipped and my thumb ended up on the hot plate! The blister was just flat this morning and the same color as my thumb, but tonight it is back to white and puffy-up. I think I irritated it by shuffling cards for Ticket to Ride this afternoon!

Day 159-June 7th: Happy Birthday Sis! (a day late on my blog, but still a happy birthday!) Today we helped Rachel pack up some things in the Provo house since it sold! We spent a couple of hours helping her, and I adopted this bear from her. Can you believe she was going to take it to DI??? She's crazy! His name is Floppy and he is very, very floppy and snuggly. I slept with him last night and when I went to sleep with him at 9pm I figured Russell would move him when he came to bed, but apparently I had a good grip on him all night! Oops! So he was in the middle all night!

6.06.2008

Brakes or No Brakes

Day 158-June 6th: This was the first stop of the morning....bright and early. Since about 3 days after we bought our Vue the breaks have been squealing and there's a crazy high-pitched hum if you drive over 70. Well, we decided we better take it in before we go up to Park City so I got up with Russell this morning and we took the car, and then I took him to work. Turns out.....the rear breaks were totally shot. Ummmm...hello? we bought the car a month ago.....A MONTH!!! Anyway, they said it was their fault and put new brakes in for free. Phew! I still believe in Saturn 100%, but maybe not the service guy who inspected the car before they sold it! Ugh. Before we bought it we talked about taking it somewhere to get it inspected, but decided that we were both fine with buying it from the dealer without that. Maybe next time we will do it differently. At least we bought a warranty though, although we didn't even have to pay the deductible for that, it was totally FREE!

6.05.2008

A Short Pose

Day 157-June 5th: I look silly in this picture, but I wanted a picture of my new shorts and I did this spontaneously while Russell was taking the picture, and it was better than all the others. Anyway, I bought these new shorts on sale at Target today because I had been needing some for months and months. My other pj shorts had lost all their elasticity so if I walked like 5 steps without holding them they started coming off! Not good! Especially when I need to run or something for HEPE this summer. So here are my new shorts! Luckily, I fit in a boys size, and they are even cheaper than men's!!!

6.04.2008

Starring.....Russell

Day 156-June 4th: Russell was helping his mom with her new Mac tonight. He was sharing her screen, which is pretty cool to do and talking to her through audio chat. It's fun to be able to hear her, it's like she's visiting us! Sometimes we do video chat, but it slows things up when they are sharing screens I guess. Anyway, I cleaned the kitchen while they were working, and then I realized I was really, really tired and just sat and watched them work till they were done!

Day 155-June 3rd: This is what Russell was doing at the moment I said "I don't have a picture of the day yet" and he responded "it can be me!" Haha. He loves to be the picture of the day, I think he wants to be it everyday! Those are the pj pants my mom made him for Christmas. He wears them every night.....in fact, it's hard to steal them to wash them!

6.02.2008

Ladder Update

I decided since it was June now it was time to put up the summer kit on our ladder. And then I realized I never posted the spring kit. So here are both, with me modeling by the summer one in my fancy dance recital t-shirt.

Jumpin' Monkeys

Another game we got in our box, courtesy of Cooper, was Jumpin' Monkeys. She found the game at Walgreen's and HAD to have it for Russell. Because he is a monkey I guess. Ever since he wanted the monkey bathroom set he is just known for monkeys to my little sisters. Anyway, little did Cooper know, we had seen the game at K-Mart a few weeks ago and Russell WANTED it!!!! Haha. He loved it. It's actually a really fun kids game. You have to catapult all your monkey's into the tree first to win each round and the banana pile for that round. Four rounds are played. And......I shut Russell out!!! Haha! I am the Jumpin' Monkey's Champion! The best part about the game though is that the youngest player starts each round by yelling "Jumpin' Monkey's!" That was my job, and I think I did it well! Thanks Coop!

An English Treat!

Day 154-June 2nd: We got a box from my mom today that we had been waiting and waiting for. In that box were Blue Mints!!!! My dad just went on a trip to Europe and these mints are one thing he always has to bring back. We loved them when we lived in England, and now we only get them when dad takes a trip. They are kind of like Mentos, only a million times better! We also got Ticket to Ride:Nordic Countries in the box, which we promptly played two times tonight. It's actually the hardest of the series I think, but maybe it will get easier when we are more familiar with the map. Thanks dad for going on a quest in Norway to get it for us! (It's only sold over there, and we were so excited when dad said he was going for business!)

Day 153-June 1st: Wow, it's already June! I spent the day mostly at the store doing inventory, it was time for cutting, ready-to-make, stationery, and miscellaneous (whatever that means). There were six of us there and we had a good time, as much as you can when doing inventory I guess. I was in charge of doing the computer stuff though, which was kind of stressful. As I was scanning about 2000 products, I kept thinking "oh crap, what if I pushed the wrong button on the last entry." I did NOT want to spend another two hours scanning everything again. But, luckily it turned out fine. So here I am, with my new best friend, the Percon machine. I thought I was more in front of my desk when Elaine took the picture, but instead we got all the wires for the phone and internet and things! Haha. Elaine says it looks like my job is very technical now.

6.01.2008

So Much for the Weekend

Friday: Work 10-3, Visit Russell, and Go to Mania (the last two were good).

Saturday: Work 9:30-5:30. Ugh. We did play games that night though.

Sunday: Work 9-4:30 for inventory. A little stressful since I was in charge of doing all the computer stuff for the first time. Luckily Keera was there to help though, it turned out fine, just takes forever.

I feel like I have 10 million things to do and no time to do them. So much for a relaxing summer I guess.
